Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

Practical answers about using AI Walking Tour — what it needs, what it costs, how long a tour takes, and what happens if a walk doesn't go to plan.

Do I need to download an app?

No. AI Walking Tour (aiwalkingtour.com) runs in your phone's browser — there is no iOS or Android app yet, so there is nothing to install, and nothing to update before a trip. It isn't affiliated with AI-Tourguide or other similarly named apps.

Does it work offline?

You need a connection while the tour is being created. After that, tap Prepare for Offline before you set off: it downloads the narration audio and loads the maps, so the tour keeps working if you lose signal — as long as the tour stays open in your browser. You can also print the tour or save it as a PDF — route map, stops, and narration text — to carry with you.

How long is a typical walking tour?

That is up to you. You choose how many stops you want and how far you're willing to walk, and the tour shows the total walking time before you set off. Most people pick something between a short loop and a couple of hours.

Can I use it in my own city?

Yes, and it is one of the better ways to use it. Because stops are chosen from Google Maps around your starting point, you can point it at your own neighborhood and get places you have walked past for years without knowing the story.

Are the places real, or does the AI invent them?

Real. Every stop is a real place found live on Google Maps and ranked by its ratings and reviews, and places Google Maps lists as closed are skipped. Each stop also shows a short Google Maps summary with a link to its Google Maps page.

How do I know the AI isn't making things up?

Every stop's narrative is written only after the AI runs a live web search on that specific place — it's required to search before it writes, not rely on memory alone. When it finds a good source, it links it directly in the narrative so you can verify it yourself. This substantially reduces hallucination, but no AI is guaranteed accurate 100% of the time: always double-check time-sensitive details like opening hours, entry rules, and safety conditions before you go.

Can I ask my AI guide questions during the tour?

Yes. While your tour is open (up to 30 days), ask your AI guide anything about the tour, a stop, or the area, by voice or text, from any tour page. It answers in your guide's voice from your tour, with know-before-you-go tips from Google Maps and, when it needs to, live web research with the sources linked. You get one question per stop, and a counter shows how many you have left. You can also share feedback about the tour from the same chat.

What if the AI guide doesn't know the answer?

It tells you. The guide is instructed not to guess. If neither your tour nor a web search gives it a reliable answer, it says so and suggests where to check, such as the place's official website. For anything time-sensitive, like opening hours or prices, it reminds you to check before you go.

Can I check where the facts come from?

Yes. Every stop's story is written from live web research, and the sources are linked right in the story text, so you can open them and read more. Each stop also shows a short Google Maps summary with a link to the place on Google Maps.

Can I follow the stops in a different order?

Yes. The route is optimized for walking efficiency, but it is a suggestion, not a rule. Take the stops in any order, skip the ones that don't appeal, and pause whenever you like.

Does the tour follow me as I walk?

Yes, if you want it to. Tap Follow me on the route map and allow location: each stop opens and its narration starts as you arrive, so you can walk hands-free — including on iPhone. Keep the tour open in your browser while you walk.

What if the tour isn't good?

There is a feedback option on every tour, and it goes straight to us. Feedback on stop selection and narration is what tunes the system, so it is worth sending.

What do my friends see when I share a tour?

A card with the tour's title, a few highlights, the number of stops and the approximate walking time, plus your personal invite link. It never shows the stop names, your starting point or your exact route. The card is made on your device and isn't stored by us.

How does pricing work?

You pay per stop, not per tour: each stop is 1 credit, and you're only charged for the stops your tour delivers. Your first few tours are free — every new account gets 20 credits. Bigger purchases earn bonus credits. No subscription, and credits never expire. Credit purchases are final.

Do I need an account?

Yes, a free account is needed to create a tour. It is what holds your free credits and your credit balance, and you can sign in with Google.

Is this a replacement for a human guide?

No. A great human guide brings warmth, spontaneity, and stories only they can tell. An AI tour guide is on-demand, patient, multilingual, and shaped entirely around your interests. It is best thought of as a companion for the walks you would otherwise take in silence.
